After coming home from the hospital, we struggled to believe those words ourselves. We wrestled with moments of depression and doubt, but ultimately we kept returning to that truth. We had to choose whether we truly believed what Scripture says, even when our circumstances didn’t seem to align. Over time, we’ve seen how placing our trust in Him allows God to transform even the most tragic situations for good, giving us joy in the midst of incredible hardship when we keep our eyes fixed on Him.
Recently I was reading Isaiah 43:2. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.". What strikes me now is that God never promises us an easy life. We live in a broken world, and there will be times where we will find ourselves "walking through the fire". But what He does promise is that He will be with us. In the midst of life's most difficult trials, we will not be consumed. Instead He can use the fire to refine us and do a work that we never dreamed was possible.
